Finding a soulmate in math class

weinkle

“Spencer and I met our on first day of classes in Math 103 with Dr. Kell. He sat next to me and we just started to talk to each other. Soon after that, we had our first date at Bagel Emporium for lunch - and we have been together ever since! We got married in Miami in January 2009. We currently live in New York and have three kids together: Leo (7), Luke (6), and Erin (6). I tell everyone I met my soulmate at 18 at the U! Go ’Canes!” – Genevieve Switlyk Weinkle, B.A. ’07, and Spencer Weinkle, B.S.C. ’07

Making a connection outside Eaton Hall

smolka

“We first met in a class we both attended in the fall of 1979 and then again at registration in the spring of 1980. Soon after, I saw her outside Eaton Hall by Lake Osceola, where we talked for a long while. I asked her out and she said yes. Our first date was at the old Cinematheque in Coral Gables, and we've been together ever since. This September we will have been married 39 years. The photo is of us visiting the campus, just outside Eaton Hall in 2018. Go ’Canes!” – Josette Guerrier Smolka, B.A. ’81, and Jeffrey Smolka, B.A. ’81

The perfect kickoff

hathaway

In classic Miami Hurricanes fashion, Brianna and Kevin met during the University of Miami’s orientation program. A kickoff week for new ’Canes turned into the perfect kickoff to the start of Brianna and Kevin’s incredible journey. What started as a friendship between the school mascot and class president turned into endless memories, from a two-year long-distance relationship (part of which was cross-continental) to getting a crazy dog named Cane. Brianna and Kevin are to be married on March 25, 2023. – Brianna Hathaway, B.A. ’16, and Kevin Weaver, B.B.A. ’17, M.S.M.S. ’20

Tim met Stephanie before school started. Her freshman year, she had arrived on campus a few days early, with Hillel, and ended up at his house for a party. It took a few months for them finally to start dating, but the rest is history: 15 years, two kids, and dogs! – Stephanie Kane, B.S.Ed. ’12, and Tim Gross, B.B.A. ’09

From best friends to life partners

“Ram and I became best friends after meeting in the Association of Commuter Students (ACS) club our freshman year. We remained best friends for eight years and then Ram moved to New York City and we realized we wanted to be more than friends. We started dating and now have been together for eight years and married for three.” – Carolina Tejidor-Krishnan, B.A. ’10, and Ram Krishnan, B.Arch. ’12
