Summer Send-Offs welcome new students to Hurricane family

The Summer Send-Off Program, long a University of Miami tradition, has staged a successful return after a two-year pandemic-related hiatus. Alumni and parents around the country hosted receptions for incoming first-year and transfer students from their home regions, welcoming them into the Hurricane family and helping them connect with their local alumni networks. Several hundred future ’Canes attended the events.

Adam Apatoff, B.B.A. ’93, who hosted a summer send-off for incoming students from the greater Washington, D.C. area, has a special reason to celebrate. His daughter, Avery, is coming to the U this fall to study sports administration in the School of Education and Human Development.

“Bringing back Summer Send-Off was an awesome way to welcome our newest students into the ’Canes family,” Apatoff said. “Connecting new students together before they get to campus is special to see and even more exciting for Susan and I with our daughter Avery being part of this year’s incoming class.”

Avery Apatoff is excited about what's ahead. “It’s amazing to feel so welcomed into the ’Canes family and to meet over 40 new students and families. I cannot wait to be on campus next week for Orientation and to start my time at The U!”
