The Golden Ibis Society recently reunited over brunch on a beautiful early spring day to celebrate its first in-person event since the start of the pandemic. Sebastian the Ibis and ’Canes cheerleaders joined the festivities, which took place near the Coral Gables campus.

Formerly known as the Old Timers Society, the Golden Ibis Society enables alumni to stay engaged with their alma mater through regular outings meant to facilitate deeper connections to the University and among fellow ’Canes.

“The welcome back brunch gave alumni the opportunity to socialize, heal, and reflect on the value of community, which is particularly important following the long and, often, lonely period of isolation due to the pandemic,” said Carol Shipman, engagement officer and organizer of the event. “The Golden Ibis Society not only offers a lifeline into the ’Cane community, but it also enables alumni to reminisce, celebrate the achievements of graduates, and support the continued success of the University of Miami.”

The Golden Ibis Society offers reflection into the University of Miami’s evolving legacy through the lens of its most spirited and seasoned alumni.
