Kicking off the football season in style

Hundreds of alumni and friends of the U celebrated opening day of the 2024 football season at a pre-game tailgate in Gainesville, along with University leaders, the Band of the Hour, Sebastian, and the ’Canes cheerleaders. Hundreds more gathered in a dozen ’Canes Communities from coast to coast to cheer on their alma mater against their old rival, the University of Florida.

Since that sweltering August Saturday, when the Hurricanes defeated the Gators 41-17, the team has added two more victories and risen to number eight in the Associated Press poll.

Enjoy this recap of the opening day tailgate and the football team’s exploits over the past few weeks. And if all that wasn’t enough, this month, we are throwing it back to 1938, the first time Miami and Florida met on the gridiron—and the first time the U beat the Gators!
