University of Miami

  January 2026

message from the dean

It is an exciting time for the University of Miami and our College of Engineering. We recently closed our centennial celebration and are already beginning our next century with strong momentum. The new year opened with a historic football season that returned the Hurricanes to the national championship for the first time in more than two decades. That energy was felt across campus and throughout the South Florida community. These moments remind us what it means to be a Cane: resilient and driven.

As we begin a new semester, we are proud to welcome our newest students and their families to the College of Engineering. This is an especially exciting time to be an engineer. Our students, faculty, alumni, and partners are shaping solutions that matter, and as we move into our next century, we invite you to stay engaged. We hope you will join us on April 28 for our Senior Design Expo, where you can see firsthand the innovative spirit of our graduating students. More details will be shared soon.

Warm regards,

Vincent Omachonu

Interim Dean, College of Engineering
University of Miami

Students attend the first class of the semester in First–Year Writing: II STEM, taught by lecturer Susan Zabowski.
