message from the dean

Commencement is always a powerful reminder of why we do this work. Last week, we celebrated our undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral graduates as they completed an important chapter of their engineering journeys and prepared to take on what comes next.

In my commencement remarks, I reflected on how life is shaped by decisions. While the math behind those choices may not always add up neatly, it is our willingness to own them that defines our growth.

The University of Miami has been my academic home for decades—as a student, faculty member, department chair, and now interim dean—and I have seen firsthand the impact of a community that believes in its people.

To our graduates, and to all those who helped guide them to this moment, thank you for being a part of our community. Your support helps ensure that our engineers are prepared to embrace uncertainty and make bold choices.

Wishing you and your family a happy holiday season.

Warm regards,

Vincent Omachonu
