As a new academic year begins, there is a renewed energy throughout the College of Engineering. Our students are back on campus with fresh ideas. Their passion is matched by the dedication of our faculty members, whose groundbreaking research continues to shape fields like clean energy, infrastructure resilience, and health technology.
It is an honor to step into the role of interim dean, and I want to thank Dr. Pratim Biswas for his impactful leadership over the past five years. His vision helped grow our research enterprise, foster innovation, and expand our global reach.
Looking ahead, I am excited to build on this momentum. With your support, we will continue to create unique learning experiences, fuel high–impact research, and prepare the next generation of engineers to lead with purpose.

Assistant Professors Luis Ruiz Pestana and Yang Wang have each been honored with National Science Foundation CAREER Awards. Ruiz Pestana, focusing on infrastructure resilience, and Wang, specializing in air pollution, will utilize this funding to advance their research while enhancing student mentorship and curriculum development.

Pratim Biswas, professor in the Department of Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering, has been named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors for his contributions to aerosol science, 17 U.S. patents, and his role in co–founding Applied Particle Technology Inc. and Smart Aerosol Technologies.
Student–built rover takes on NASA challenge
