It is with great excitement that I share our fall issue of the Barrister Brief as we begin what is shaping up to be an extraordinary academic year. We've welcomed an outstanding incoming class. Our J.D. class is the highest credentialed and from the largest group of applicants in nearly a century, our LL.M. and S.J.D. students bring legal expertise from 28 countries, and our Master of Legal Studies program is celebrating its one-year anniversary with 84 students already enrolled—a true testament to the exceptional reputation of Miami Law.
During our new student orientation, we were honored to host Commissioner Oliver G. Gilbert III, J.D. ’00, who delivered a motivating keynote address. He urged our students to be resolute in their legal journeys and to continuously learn from one another, reminding them that “iron sharpens iron.” This same spirit of collaboration has been a hallmark of our community, a quality recently recognized by The Princeton Review with our No. 2 ranking for diversity of faculty and No. 3 for best quality of life. This would simply not be possible without the unwavering support of our alumni, and our outstanding faculty and staff.
The new academic year will be busy with high-profile events. This month we welcomed Sonia Sotomayor, our third Supreme Court Justice to visit in the last year, our Distinguished Faculty Lecture with Katharina Pistor is in a few weeks, and in February we welcome Paul Clement as the keynote speaker at our Miami Law Class Action and Complex Litigation Forum. The School of Law’s centennial celebration begins in January 2026 and will feature a series of signature events and public lectures to commemorate our 100th anniversary. Stay tuned to learn about our exciting centennial plans later this fall.
I hope you enjoy reading about our recent achievements and the latest news at Miami Law.
A year of successes by Miami Law's teams earned them a top national ranking, sharpening their advocacy and litigation skills for real-world legal practice.
