It is a privilege to serve you all as president of the Law Alumni Association, particularly as we celebrate the centennial of our University and soon, the centennial of the School of Law. These milestones remind us of the incredible impact our graduates have had over the last century on our community and nation. Our alma mater is at the heart of an emerging global city, with alumni who have distinguished themselves as leaders in courtrooms throughout the country and the world, in boardrooms of leading global corporations, and in the halls of Congress and beyond.
I am grateful to my predecessor in this role, Jordan Shaw, J.D. ’14, who led the association through a year of growth and new opportunities. Thanks as well to our new executive committee and board members for their commitment and service to our alma mater. I am excited to continue working with our outstanding Interim Dean, Patricia Sanchez Abril. Dean Abril has been a devoted ally of our alumni community and has implemented an innovative and positive vision for the Law School.
We kicked this year off with an alumni reception at the Florida Bar Conference in Boca Raton on June 26. Thank you to those who attended! I hope to see you all again at our upcoming events or our homecoming festivities this fall, November 5 – 8. We will have a busy year of events in South Florida and throughout the country, so please stay tuned. Our themes for the coming year will be to build community, encourage engagement with our alumni, and recognize their many achievements. To accomplish this, we will be developing our network nationwide, working with the Law School’s administration and students to bring our graduates back to campus, and hosting signature events that will celebrate the achievements of our alumni. By elevating each of you, we elevate our entire community!
