Paul J. DiMare (pictured above with his wife, Swanee) was a longtime supporter of the University of Miami who made a record-breaking $6 million gift to medical education scholarships at the Miller School of Medicine, funded an endowed chair in immunotherapy at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and served as a UM trustee for 18 years. Before he passed away from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) late last year, he had been working to start a new institute that would search for cures for debilitating neurodegenerative disorders.
